Avid and 100mb/s longGOP solved yet?

Hey guys,

We're an Avid house (on 5.0.3.9 right now), and this is my first foray into NanoFlash. We're shooting on an EX3 to NanoFlash. I've been hearing that there's big trouble using long-gop 100mbit/sec footage from the Nano Flash in Avid, and I'm wondering if it's been resolved or if it's still a problem?

We plan on importing the footage into Avid, not using AMA, or the 'direct-drag' (into the MXF > 1 folder) method. Is it possible to import this stuff to DNxHD 220 and edit with no problems? Or is that a dumb idea for some reason?

Thanks for any advice!

Hello Tim,

With Version's 5+ and newer you must download MXF plugin, for link to AMA to work,
Avid | AMA ? Avid Media Access

I have just tested 100Mb Long Gop and I-Frame, both import just fine. If not you can always file>import, which still had worked with 5.5 even thou link to AMA was broken.

Best Regards

Thanks Andy,

We've been importing 100Mbit/sec footage into our system, but a quick glimpse into our bins lists the imported media's format as "XDCAM 50mbit/s". Any idea if this is reported incorrectly, or does Avid really compress it down to 50Mbit?

Re: Avid and 100mb/s longGOP solved yet?

Hello Tim,

I would check the files with Sony XDCAM viewer, and under the "company name" is the recorded bit rate and format, (100Mb IF or LG) depending on what you had recorded,

but simply to get the editors to take the non standard higher bit rates(greater than 50Mb), in the standard bit rate section it must report 50Mb for Avid to ingest the files, (or trick avid into taking the files) but your files will maintain Quality, till you export to whatever the desired end result is.

Hope that Helps.
