Large Amounts of Flash XDR's on Ebay !
Hi friends:
To my great surprise, there are large amounts of brand new Flash XDR's available on Ebay. Go to Convergent Design Flash XDR Portable HD Recorder NEW on eBay.ca (item 150427846438 end time 24-Aug-10 09:58:34 EDT) for further details. There's also a refurbished one listed at Convergent Design Flash XDR on eBay.ca (item 220651191280 end time 16-Aug-10 03:51:53 EDT) . For those of you who may already own a Nano Flash and might want to have a second CD SSDR as a backup with even more recording slots, then this is for you. I might snap up an extra unit myself. EDIT: Here's a used one from Great Britain at http://cgi.ebay.ca/Convergent-Design...ht_2262wt_1139 |

One Listing Still Active
Hi Dan:
One listing is still active at Convergent Design Flash XDR HD recorder on eBay.ca (item 110568268948 end time 01-Sep-10 13:12:17 EDT) -This appears to be a used XDR listing out of Great Britain. I'm curious to learn why the listing of 10 XDR units up for auction and the other XDR auction listing suddenly disappeared. (??????????) |

They did not actually have 10 Flash XDR's.

XDR's up for auction on Ebay
Hi Dan: OK. Understood. They listed they had 10 units available in their Ebay listing. I have no way of knowing one way or the other - I assumed since he was selling XDR's as new and unused, then he must have had some unsold stock of them.

Dear Mark,
No, they were expecting us to supply them when they got orders. We do not currently have 10 in stock.

The FlashXDR is a fine unit and has many advantages over the nanoFlash.
Some key advantages were better audio features (XLR) and twice the recording time as well as a more durable overall physical unit. The drawback is a larger physical size, power consumption, and no HDMI. I still think the XDR is one fine product and would think in a studio environment it would be the better choice of the two CD recorders. But from an business economics viewpoint, I can understand the decision to discontinue it. I hope the concept that the XDR's firmware features will continue to be upgraded just as the nanoFlash features are realized. |

Dear John,
Thank you for your post. While our website says that the Flash XDR is discountinued, it is more accurate to state that we are not building them at this time. We can resume production of the Flash XDR if there is a demand for them. It is fair to state that the demand for the nanoFlash far exceeds the demand for the Flash XDR's, as many objected its larger size. And it is fair to state that the Flash XDR's have the advantages that you mentioned. As of this moment, B&H has two in stock.

The Wonderful & Enduring Flash XDR
Hi John:
I agree with most of your points about the Flash XDR. I would naturally have preferred the XDR to have gone through what I consider as its *Full product development - i.e. The initialization of the on board FireWire and RS-422 interfaces, as well as the much touted *uncompressed option* originally promised as a feature upgrade for the XDR when it was originally introduced before the product was discontinued by CD. I am quite happy to see CD continue to support the XDR with firmware upgrades. |

Dear Mark,
We would prefer that you ordered existing units, new units, at our dealers, prior to us restarting production. The answer really depends on how many you would want.
