Audio Question
Hello Dan,
I have an audio question re the Sony EX3 Nanoflash combo hoping you might be able to give me some info. When I take a direct SDI feed of Bars & tone from the EX3 camera to the NLE SDI input the the Audio level show's 0 db. When the same EX3 bars and tone is recorded to the Nanoflash and the file is then imported to FCP or other NLE's the audio reads at about -14db? Have you any idea's on this. Many thanks. |

Dear Lance,
Which NLE? How is the audio going into the NLE? Is it via a sound card? With your setup, HD-SDI with embedded audio, into the nanoFlash, the nanoFlash does not adjust the level of the audio. The Sony EX3 controls the level of audio as it encodes it into the HD-SDI stream. Then we take the audio in the HD-SDI stream and record it with the video. I have checked the Sony EX3 Operator manual. It does not state the level of the tone, as far I what I can find. I feel that -12dB tone level is certainly possible. You are reading -14dB on the nanoFlash which is the in area, depending on our calibration of the meters.

Hello Dan,
The NLE is FCP and the Tricaster I have worked out that I am looking at two different scales one is VU and the other db which accounts for the difference in audio level that I have seen. Thanks |
