Watch nano takes on old iBook G4?
Aloha friends,
I'm heading back to Samoa on Sunday, dragging my old iBook G4 merely as an email reader and nanoFlash transfer station. It seems that it cannot play the video from my nano files. I can hear audio, but the video is black. I have confirmed that the files are good on a MacPro. I just want to see a picture. Is there hope for this setup? Any third party help? Mac OS 10.5.8 QT Player 7.6.6 Thanks, Jeff |

Hi Jeff,
Have you checked out the 'Viewing Options' section of the Nano manual? It lays it out very succinctly. If you're recording to MOV files you'll need FCP installed to supply the appropriate codec for QT player. Or you'd need to use XD Decode from Calibrated Software. Or with MXF files you might want to check VLC Media Player. I'm guessing that playback on such a system will be very choppy at best. |

Dave, even with FCP installed on a G4 system, the files do not display properly, although it is better than black.
I have 5 Macs, all with FCP and the G4 does not display these files correctly. |

Without Final Cut Pro, version 6.0.4 or higher installed on this computer, you will not be able to play our 4:2:2 50 Mbps or higher files via QT Player. But, you may be able to play 35 Mbps 4:2:0 files. QT Player does not contain the XDCam codec, thus cannot play back our 4:2:2 files.
