nanoFlash Mounting Solved (EX1/EX3 and others)
Dear Friends,
As many of you are aware, it is difficult to mount accessories on the Sony EX1 / EX3 and other cameras. We have been searching for a solution for mounting our new nanoFlash on these cameras. While we were NAB, Mike Schell found this very nice little device that is just perfect. This is a classic hot or cold shoe ball mount from Nebtek. Nebtek: Product Detail We tested this on various cameras and found it to be just perfect for our needs. The nanoFlash has a 1/4" x 20 (Common Tripod Thread) mount. While these photos are not great, they do show the concept. We did not have an EX1 and EX3 in our booth at the show so we do not have photos at this time, but we know it will work well. We tested this low-cost, but well designed and sturdy mount with the nanoFlash on a XL H1s and a XH G1. I found this mount to be especially useful as one can easily position the nanoFlash so that the display and keys are in the optimum position. The person in the XL H1 photo is our friend Mr. Rick Kelly who manned the Canon booth for us. The photo shows both a Flash XDR and a nanoFlash mounted on the same camera.

Dan, I hope you haven't given up on the Anton Bauer QR EX3 plate, for EX3 mounting?

Dear Chris,
No, not at all. We have already built special mounting plates for mounting the Flash XDR to the Anton Bauer QR EX3 mounting plates. We showed these at NAB last week. The ball type hot/cold shoe mount allows the nanoFlash to be placed in a variety of postions on the EX3.

Can the nano be attached in any way to the side metal plate of the Bebob Coco EX3? Or to the accessory back plate of the VF Gadgets EX3 shoulder mount? That is other than using the ever so resourceful velcro!

Dear Brian,
While we have a Coco, I do not have one in front of me at this time. The back of the nanoFlash as a 1/4" x 20 tripod screw hole. So with a proper 1/4" x 20 screw, it is possible to adapt this to a wide range of mounting conditions. Also, we build custom back plates for other mounting conditions.
