Program to View our MXF Files on PC and Mac
Dear Friends,
We have found that the VLC Media player plays our MXF files. It is our understanding that this multi-format player works on both the PC and the MAC. This free media player/encoder seems to work fine when playing our MXF files, but we have not had much success in scrubbing the files, or repositioning the playback pointer. Overall, this is a very useful tool for viewing many different media formats, on multiple computer platforms, without the need to install special codecs or a Non-Linear Editor. Our thanks go out to the VideoLan Team! VLC media player - Overview

Dear Bill,
Thanks for the information. Is the MainConcept Reference Codec stand-alone, or do you need another program, such as a Non-Linear Editor to play the files?

It's stand alone. It's, basically, a transcoder, and if you don't mind the rather large watermark, it's free. Used to preview footage, it works well for a variety of formats. I believe it's the "generic" version of the Sony Clipbrowser software.

Thank you very much. I downloaded the XDCAM full resolution clip viewer, the latest version, and it worked great! So we now have another way of viewing MXF files on PC's. I do not know if this software works on a Mac.

Sony download agreement
Quote:
I own an EX3 and am extremely interested in CDs work on the XDR/Nano flash. This post of Dan's prompted me to try to download the link. However the agreement for this appears to preclude any commercial usage of MPEG-4 content. When I go back to the EX3s owner's manual it seems to suggest the same thing. If this has been covered in earlier posts I apologise, but does anyone know what the implications are re this. I want to compliment Mike and Dan and co on their efforts in the development of this exciting product and I only wish the bigger boys treated their potential customers with as much respect as these guys do! Dear Brian,
Thanks for the very kind words. We are trying to be open, informative and helpful. The message about MPEG-4 does not apply to us. Our MXF contains MPEG-2 not MPEG-4. After reading the contract, I did not see anything that would prevent you from viewing our files, even if it was for a commercial purpose.
