Sorry I haven't seen this sooner!
Just install the Avid Codec package on the Mac you use for Final Cut. Once you've done that (and restarted final cut) you'll have all the Avid codecs available.

Choose export using quicktime conversion then in options under compression type choose Avid DNxHD.

Other options available are Depth (Millions of Colors) and Resolution (1080i/59.94 DNxHD 220 8 or 10 bit)

Size (set to 1920x1080)

Color (Use either just tell the editor which one you used so his black levels are correct)

Set your audio options (linear PCM / Stereo / 24 bit sample size)

OK!

The file imports into the Avid, no problem.

Here's the link to Avid Codecs:

Answer

Also I noticed your editor will be able to fast import if you set your color to 709 on export.

Make sure the Editor is working on an HD capable Avid by the way, many of them aren't.

Thanks again Mike Palermo.

I just downloaded the codec and exported a movie from FCP with the AVID codec. It seems to work just fine. That's just what I needed!!!

Cheers,
Scott
