Mike et al.,

Can you recommend any wireless solutions that will work with all data rates of the XDR? Need to be free of cables for something for an upcoming piece and want to use the XDR/EX3 if poss.

Dear Justin,

Do you want to go from the camera, wireless, to the Flash XDR?

Or do you want to go wired from the camera, then wireless to a on-set monitor?

In either case, any wireless that is capable of handling HD-SDI should work.

I do not know your application, but I would mount the Flash XDR on the camera and go wired from the camera to the Flash XDR. This eliminates and possible wireless dropouts.
Of course, I assume this is not possible for some reason.

I recommend that you do a google search on HD-SDI wireless.

There are multiple units available that meet your needs.

IDX CW-5HD Cam~Wave HD-SDI Uncompressed Video & Audio Wireless System is one of them.

Hi Dan,

I'll check out the IDX. I would prefer to have the XDR on a trolley away from the camera as size and weight with its attendant battery would get in the way in some upcoming scenes.

I may well invest in the nanoFLASH in the future and attach it to the EX3 more or less permanently.

Dear Justin,

If you can go wired, I would definitely do so.

HD-SDI wireless is relatively expensive.

The nanoFlash may be a reasonable solution.

Neither the nanoFlash nor the Flash XDR has to be mounted on the camera.

Under certain exterme circumstances, if you can not have the Flash XDR or nanoFlash on the camera, could you have it connected with a thin HD-SDI cable. In this case, you could have a person manage the cable and have the Flash XDR / nanoFlash strapped to the same person.

Of course, if you just can not have the cable, then you could go wireless. But the wireless needs a battery also and the nanoFlash may be smaller than the wireless transmitter.

While a big battery is nice for long recording time, one could always use a much smaller battery for short shots to get the weight down.
