Cineform Prospect and Combustion 4
Hi David,
Would imported 10-Bit Cineform Prospect files be recognized as 10-Bit in Autodesk Discreet Combustion 4 -- Or would they only be recognized as 8-Bit Source files? And if they are not recognized as 10-Bit source files, are there any plans for a 10-bit Cineform importer for Combustion? -Geoff Murillo |

They are only recognized as 8-bit files, and unfortunately Combustion doesn't allow for custom importers as there no SDK. The good news is we are adapting CineForm Intermediate to work with QuickTime, which will add 10-bit support within tools like Combustion. The Quicktime aren't available as beta yet, but we are making good progress. This will become a standard feature within Prospect HD, allows you to choose an AVI or MOV workflow, losslessly switching back and forth whenever you need.

That's great news. Thanks David.
I currently own the Prospect Edit-Only version. Will the new version version be a free upgrade for current users? Will it be released soon? And do you need any Beta testers? :) Thanks, Geoff |

Almost forgot... Congratulations on the SI1920-HDVR/Cineform RAW release. All the pictures I've seen and everything I've read is amazing.

Geoff, yes the upgrade will be free to all Prospect HD Edit or Ingest users. We hope it is ready for beta in a couple of months (or sooner) but it has several technical hurdles to go (keep your figures crossed.)

COmbstion and cineform

We have had the same question. We have actually comunicated with discrete about this on a few occasions and they said they would look into opening this up but also said the user base seemed to small. Naturally as a user I disagree. Perhaps those of us interested in this option should email regularily requesting this until they do it - I can't think of a GOOD reason why discrete should prevent it. It's going to happen now with the MOV files anyway thanks to cineform. Simon |
