Does Premiere Pro need Cineform?
I've hunted the web, but I can't find the answer .... since PPro 1.51 supports capturing, editing and output of HDV, what does one need Cineform for? Is it that Cineform transcodes the HDV into something more manageable whereas PPRo edits native HDV? Presumeably the point of that would be better performance due to the lower hardware requirements of editing transcoded HDV. Am I close?

Sort of.
Cineform provides a realtime editing experience. Premiere Pro 1.5.1 by itself does not. There are special effects provided by Cineform that keep it all realtime. Also, capturing with Aspect HD's tool called HDLink, you can use a slower PC because you can capture M2T and then convert to Cineform AVI in two steps, instead of stressing the PC to do it simultaneously. Premiere Pro captures M2T and the converts to Cineform AVI. And I get pixelization. I don't have that problem with Aspect HD. Also, there is a higher quality setting you can choose in Aspect HD. Premiere Pro uses Medium and not High. |
