I have a dell precision 690 with 2 dual xeon 5140 and I would like to upgrade to 2 quad cores xeon 5355.

It is better, but how much is harder to say. My guess 50-60% more computing power.

Make sure you double-check with Dell to make sure this is possible. In the past there have been issues with their mobos which sometimes make upgrading impossible.

I checked my motherboard and it is the MY171 normally it will work and I did ugrade latest bios version |

I did the upgrade to 2 quad cores xeon 5355 on my dell precision 690 and I'm very happy.David told 50-60% more computing power and he is right.My cpu,s are using like 8% on every core on a 1280 x 720 24p project.
