missing thumbnails
I've just moved to a Window 7 machine but find I am not seeing thumbnails of CineForm files in Windows explorer. I am migrating from a XP machine where I did not have this problem. I am seeing spotty (about 50%) thumbnails in Adobe Bridge. All of these files are CineForm express files (1024X512) made with R23D from .R3D files.
Has anyone else had this problem with Windows 7? Last edited by David H. Wilson; February 24th, 2010 at 11:55 AM. |

Are any of the rest of you running Windows7 64bit and seeing CFAVI thumbnails in windows explorer?
I don't seem to be able to get any of my original CineForm files generated through R2CF to show thumbnails in windows explorer Windows7 64bit. Files I export from a PP timeline made from the original CineForm files show thumbnails just fine. |

That is my setup on my home PC, and thumbnails work fine on R2CF conversions. Does VirtualDub work for you, I believe explorer uses the VFW codec for thumbnails. Try 32 and 64-bit versions, maybe you are missing a VFW decoder.

VirtualDub (both 32 & 64bit) play all files fine. All of the R2CF express files play fine in WMP as well. It's just the thumbnails that won't show.
I've tried installing (and them subsequently uninstalling) CCCP and Shark007 on reports that they might help but neither did. I would assume (maybe wrongly) they would contain VFW decoders. It doesn't seem like a good idea to just keep installing random codec packs. Do I need ffdshow? (ffdshow tryouts?) I remember reading it can interfere. Where should I get the VFW decoders. I've submitted a sample CF express file to Jake to evaluate. |

Don't install random codec packs. The VirtualDub test proved you have the CineForm VFW codec installed, and that is what explorer should be using to generate the thumbnails. So no idea way they aren't showing.

As added information, all CF files made through HDLink (rather than R2CF) generate thumbnails on both the XP and Windows 7 64 bit machines without problem in both Windows explorer as well as Adobe Bridge.
We shot with a Canon 5D MII as well as the Red and converted through HDLink - those files show thumbnails and play fine. As a side note... I see all Windows Explorer thumbnails on my Vista 32 bit laptop. Last edited by David H. Wilson; February 27th, 2010 at 08:12 PM. |
