"It's not a bug, it's a feature" as they say. For whatever reason, the preview outputs directly to the trimmer window, even though by default it's hidden beneath the explorer tab. Yeah, I don't get it either...

To make it back the way you're used to, just go to the trimmer window and de-select the "Show Video Monitor" option. I guess you could snap the trimmer out of the tabbed display, which might make a little bit of sense, but I'd rather have the clips preview in the preview window.
Well, what do you know! This worked perfectly. Only slightly weird thing is the video seems to play back slightly better (Higher fps) in the trimmer window. And both previews are like lightning compared to the crawl from the timeline - oh well, draft it is.

Thanks for your help!

Whoa.. We were just talking about Neo Scene which is $129. Now you say NeoHD will convert my files but that's $499. Are you saying the $129 product won't convert my EX1 files?

Yes. Neo Scene is priced for consumer HDV and AVCHD cameras, it is a capture and batch conversion tool, but don't include professional scaling and other operations. We don't consider an EX1 to be a consumer camera.
