Black Magic/AJA - which one with Prospect HD
Hi,
I'm looking into building a capture computer to take on set with me so I can capture either uncompressed component or SDI (Z1U/XDCam EX) I'm going to be using Cineform Prospect HD and wondering which card would work the best. Also trying to work out getting the footage to my editing system, but maybe an external eSATA RAID would be best. Any suggestions? |

AJA LHe is idea for either component or HDSDI capture. eSATA is a good idea, although the capture bandwidth is low enough to not require a RAID.

The problem with the AJA stuff is they recommend only dual processor computers, and I'm wanting to just use a single Core 2 DUO system like this:

I don't know why AJA would recommend dual processors for a minimum spec. From a CineForm standpoint we use the AJA LHe card all day long on single-chip Core 2 Duo processor such as the E6700 without a hitch, and we're using the CPU much more than AJA does because we are compressing the data.
If you want a system that supports both compressed (CineForm software) and uncompressed (AJA software) you should make sure the system you have supports the minimum specs for both. But I guess I'd ask AJA why they recommend a dual processor system for uncompressed work. |
