Nope VLC doesn't have the codec it just plays sound and no video correct? I think Media Player is the best way to go to view Cineform files. I also used Nero DVD player that works as well.

VLC only decodes with its internally supported codecs - it's not the fault of CineForm, it's because VLC doesn't use the DirectShow decoders CineForm installs.
As previously mentioned, Media Player Classic offers superior performance than the standard media player.

A second that, David, that's the player I prefer to use. I really love it.
I was just interested why VLC doesn't play Cineform. The only drawback is that Media Player Classic seems to be no longer updated.

VLC doesn't use DirectShow or VideoForWindow APIs, it only includes decoders that are open source or have public source reference decoders.
Media Player CLassic got a new update 10 days ago. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...er_Classic.htm

It works fine, you need to install, or reinstall you CineForm software.

If you're using an nVidia card make sure the overlay settings are set correctly. If the AVIs work in Windows Media Player, there is no reason whatsoever for Media Player Classic not to run them as they basically use the same DirectShow filters to decode.
