How to connect monitor speakers to imac
I am buying a 20" imac and want to put Yamaha MSP3 or MSP5 monitor speakers on it. How do I connect them together? I am using this for editing video by the way. Will a Griffin imic solve the problem?

Plug it into your headphone jack.

Headphone jack?
Thanks Edward, are you doing this on your system? I only know from my experience with high end hifi that using proper connectors is likely to give better quality, having said that the mac has an optical audio output??? I assume this is very high quality. Normally I would run the speakers out through phone plugs but the mac only accepts 1 tiny jack, do I not need an additional connector like the imic

The iMic only outputs 1/8" minijack, just like the iMac. The iMac does have optical out via mini-toslink, but your speakers have to have an input, or you will need a receiver that accepts optical input.
PS: No I don't have any audio monitors right now. I'm relying on my Sony headphones, which seem to work fine. Last edited by Edward Carlson; June 4th, 2007 at 09:22 AM. |
