XL1 Vs. XL1 s ?
Which should I buy?
Im new at this and am having a hard time decipherring the real differences. Especially when i see $ on the 2. People are paying new $ for used equipment. What are the differences and which is the better buy? Also I will need a good fish eye lense. Any suggestions here? Please email me FlipC@worldconspiracy.org Thanks |

Look on Chris's XL1 watchdog, there's a whole comparison.
http://www.dvinfo.net/xl1.htm If you want to find out whats new on the XL1s go to: http://www.canondv.com/xl1s/f_new.html Fish eye lenses: Optex or the 3x wide angle lens, http://www.xl1s.com/ Hope these help |

No problem, all part of the service!!!
I brought my XL1 about 9 months ago now, and have not regretted buying it ever since, and I will probably not upgrade to the XL1s, since I probably won't use some of the features on it. A couple of controls on the XL1s which would be handy would include; the letterbox lines in the viewfinder, the extra gain db, interval timer, and the camera not turning off every five minutes if I am not recording. Other than that, they both look the same, and feel the same. Is that English £'s, if so I have seen brand new XL1s for about 2300, the price I brought my refurbished XL1 9 months a go!! Hope this helps, Ed Smith |

No , thats US dollars BUT thats about right for US - found em at 2899 from 2 places and another at 100 more. All 3 were NOT "gray market" and did include all accessories and warranty from manufactuer etc.
Thanks for the input. I think Im just going to buy a new used XL1s cause I can get it for about the same as a used XL1... which is crazy... I did come across a PAL Xl1 that was 6 months old for 950 US... allot of others were in the 1300 dollar range.. Ebay is evil.... LOL |

If you are a casual MiniDV user who could save a few bucks then by all means go for the XL-1. It will not dissappoint you. On the other hand, if you are a heavy MiniDV user - e.g. you make a living shooting with the system, or you plan to do a good deal of work that needs to be top quality, then I would strongly suggest you look into the XL-1s. The extra money is well worth the improved interface and electronics.
