Standby mode

Hello,

I am new to this forum and am getting close to buying either an XL1s or a SonyVX2000 or PD150

My Question relates to the XL1S.

If I am recoding and have to pause,it is my understanding that the pause feature puts the camera into standby mode. It will stay in standy for 5 minutes and then shut off the camera.

Is there a way for dissabling the shut down of the camera?

The Sony VX2000 camera shuts down after 5 mins and then to re-start you have to switch off and then on again.

Thanks for any help you can give.

You can setup the XL1s so that it will not shutdown after the
time period. HOWEVER, it will ALWAYS dis-engage the tape heads
to not get them or the tape damaged. Any camera will do this
though.

Keep in mind that the "old" XL1 WILL shutdown (and you cannot
change this). With the "new" XL1s it is a setting you can change
(it will still dis-engage the tape heads).

Hope this explains it.

Thanks for your reply.

I am going into the camera shop next week. The sales person was not familiar with this. If you have time could you tell me the settings that I need to adjust and how

Thanks again

I downloaded the manual from this URL:
http://www.canondv.com/downloads/manuals/XL1S_NTSC_E.pdf
and found on page 36 the instructions to change the setting:

Menu -> VCR SET UP -> PWR SAVE = SHUT OFF -or- VCR STOP

That's it. I suggest you thoroughly read a products manual (if
available online) before you buy it. It can tell you a lot of
information!!
