Do you run in manual gain?
Do you find the XL-1 runs better in manual or automatic gain. I've read the info on when to turn it up, but what advantages are there in turning it down or just in manual?

I haven't been playnig with my XL1S too long, so I don't
have very much experience with it yet, but I tend to shoot in manual gain. I'm doing most of the things manual except focus at the moment. I like the control I get this way over the final image (although it can be tough sometimes to control, i have to learn a lot of new things). Gain can change a lot how your picture looks (especially at higher settings), it is easy to introduce noice. But eventuelly it all comes down to are you pleased with the image your getting, if not, experiment and see if you can make it better manually! Hope this helps some!
