Experiment with a 1/60th shutter speed.
Try doing a pan, with trees or similar items in the background. Try different panning speeds. Then change your shutter speed to 1/250th. You will get a strobing effect which is generally undesirable. Note: you may not see this in the viewfinder. Playback the tape for these tests. This test will show you that a 1/60th shutter speed may fit your purposes.

The automatic setting of White Balance works well for most subjects.
Advanced users will want to White Balance manually for some conditions. To do this, place a large white card, usually a pure whte, but other colors may be used for special purposes, in the scene where you will be shooting. Select a "White Balance" setting such as 1, 2 or 3, but not the auto, then focus on the card, and then press the white balance button. If you are in manual, or other modes in which you manually set the iris, just move the iris wheel to a desired setting. Do you have a manual for the camera? If not, you can download one from this site.
