i was wondering... were there any firmware updates released by canon for the XL1 camcorder? third party maybe?
you know, like with the still cameras - where there was hacked firmware out before the official release by Canon... am i missing anything? :D

I believe Canon diod have a firmware upgrade for the original XL1 a while back that you can probably still get but the XL1 doesn't have user upgradable firmware, so you'd have to send it to Canon for them to do it.

I can confirm there was a firmware update for the XL1, available as a Canon-installed upgrade in around 1999-2000 or so. One of the things it addressed was focus tracking as zoom changes in manula focus mode. I am not aware of any hacked firmware.

can the XL1 be hacked in any way to make it user-upgradable?
what were the improvements of the newer firmware?
