XL1 servicing and accessories
Hi,
I am new to this forum and have just obtained an excellent condition XL1 with every conceivable extra minus a remote control with very little use(family friend)! I would like to know if it is possible to obtain one from ANYWHERE! Also, I intend to get the camera serviced and checked before I go any further and as I am UK based, any help on service centres and approx costs would be appreciated. I am based near Hull, East Yorkshire. Also, regards a teleconvertor, is it better to save my pennies and buy a genuine Canon, or one of the "Pro range" I have seen on ebay Any help is much appreciated, as are any tips! Thanks Steve |

xl1 remotes show up on ebay from time to time... i picked up a spare from there a few years back. you could get a new one from canon accessories as well. if i remember corrcetly, they were around 70 usd. the telephone number is on the website.

Thanks for your reply.
I am a regular on ebay so i'll keep my eyes peeled! Incidentally, will a remote for a WL D77 remote work with the xl1? Also, any help on service locations in the UK welcomed! steve |

Hi Steve,
from my experiences, any Canon video camera remote will work, so if you don't need the jog/shuttle on the XL remote, you may save some money by just buying one of the smaller consumer camera remotes - the remote from my ZR-45 works fine with the XL1. In terms of teleconverters, I've never heard of an XL teleconverter other than the one from Canon - perhaps post a link to what you're referring to, but if in doubt, always go with Canon stuff. |
