XL1s won't playback tapes
I just got my camera back from Canon after sending it out for a repair on a lens problem. Well I got it back and the camera works great, but now I have found a different problem. I was going through some of my old DV tapes and the first one i put in the camera was playing fine. The next tape, however, would not play and I thought maybe I hadn't used it, so I tried a different one. Same thing...just a blue screen with no apparent time code on it. I knew I had used those tapes so I tried putting the first tape back in, and it didn't play either. I can't get any of my tapes to play at all. I don't understand what happened. Has anyone heard of this problem? Can it be fixed with a head cleaner? I really can't afford to send it back out, but I'm afraid I might have to if I can't get it working.

Put in a new blank tape, shoot something, then play it back. If still nothing, back it goes.
I've had good success with warranty repairs on my XL1s -a jammed tape was cause for replacing several small parts. It is possible that the repair center may have done a complete checkup on the camera itself (especially if it's still under warranty), depending on the hours found on the drive/drum -they may have replaced some additional parts. You should check the work order/receipt to see what was done. Stuff happens though. Pete |

For some reason, the head cleaning tape I had would not work. But I picked up a new one, and it solved the problem. Weird.
