Is this an XL!s thing ??!

Hi guys I am having real problems exporting to tape ( and a few other things )!
I am getting no recording on the camera when I print to video from FCE 2.
I have posted my problems more fully on the editing forum and if you've got a moment I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thanks

This isn't a problem with the camera unless it is broken. I see these
options:

1. your firewire cable is bad

2. your camera is broken (firewire port blown?)

3. FCE/Mac OS is the problem

I assume you have the camera in VCR mode and do a print to tape?

Hi Rob - managed to get the problem sorted !
It was something very fundamental - I had selected in "Easy Set Up" DV-PAL and not "Firewire Basic - PAL". Stupid really but the print to tape now works fine.
Thanks for your thoughts though - all contributions gratefully accepted !
Have worked all my life with stills cameras (digi + film) / shot films (as a director) for the BBC and yet here I am a complete novice at shooting DV and editing.
Just goes to show you are always learning something new.

Firewire Basic or Pal DV

I am a little curious. In easy setup FCP, should I select Firewire Basic or Pal DV and why?

Dennis: doesn't the post above yours explains it? It doesn't seem
to work with easy, only with firewire basic. So I would select that.

Thanks Rob, but I have been using Pal DV for over 3 months and it works fine. I was wondering what the difference was and if i had made a mistake.

I'm on the PC, so I don't know, but doesn't the manual explain
what the difference is between these options?

Otherwise I hope someone else can clarify it for you...
