Shotgun mic and audio 2
I'm a new user of XL1S.
I've a simple request. I'd like our wireless mic on one channel, and the on-board shotgun (One channel of it) on the other side. In 16 bit mode. Near as I can tell, this can't be done. If I go to 12 bit mode, then quality is lower, and I'm not sure how to pick one channel of audio 1 and one channel of audio 2 into FCP. |

A few thoughts.
For most field applications the 12-bit mode quality is OK. It still is about as good frequenc response and distortion the analog formats, with better S/N. Also, if the standard mic is the same as the XL1 (stereo with a cardoid pattern), and you take one channel of it, the sound pickup will be skewed to the corresponding side unles you povit the mic some how. That said, you probably could cobble or find a cable with mini-phone-to-RCA connectors to run the signal back to the RCA jack of choice. Maybe even find one that also converts from stereo to mono so you can use both sides of the mic pickup. However, you will still have to provide 5 vdc power to the mic. |
