Shoot on DVX100, Use XL1 to Capture?

I'm not sure which forum would be the most appropriate for this, so I'll try here. Please move if necessary.

Say I record a bunch of video on the Panasonic DVX100 camera using advanced pulldown which generates flags so Final Cut Pro 4 can remove them on capture. If I take this tape out of the camera and put it in, say, an original Canon XL1, would FCP4 still recognize the advanced pulldown and capture it as 24p?

Yes it should recognize those flags IN THEORY. Why? because
those flags are in the DV special section which the programs
are looking for, BUT:

1. the XL1(s) is known to have difficulty reading tapes from other camera's

2. the XL1(s) doesn't UNDERSTAND the mpeg2 format inside the DV structure. While capturing it tries to playback the tape. I would guess that it would reject to play the tape or somehow mess the signal up due to it not understanding it

Ofcourse there is only one way to know for sure.... And that's
to try it out. But I wouldn't do it with footage I couldn't loose
or if bring back a rented DVX100 for example before knowing
for sure.

Good luck!

I am a bit confused by the "Mpeg2" comment. I thought DV was DV. Where does mpeg2 come in? I am not trying to shoot with a camera that captures HDmpeg2 or anything.

That would be might mistake then. I thought you were shooting
HD. If it is just standard DV with the extra flags then in theory
it should work. Testing would still be in order though!
