Actually Don, with a menu selection in the XL1S you simply select line instead of mic...I run a mixer into mine at times (just remember to switch it back : )) |

It is the actual circuits in the MA100/200 that will start to clip if the input signal exceeds around -7 dBV, not the camcorder. While that is above nominal consumer line level (which is -10 dBV) it can be trouble for professional line levels which are more like +4 dB.
This is a hard limitation based in part on the power supply voltage.
