Sunshade/ CANON XL1S
ANYONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN BUILD A SUN SHADE BOX FOR THE CANON XL1S. IT WOULD BE NICE FOR MY CAMERA TO LOOK LIKE THE PROFESSIONAL FILM CAMERA. I KNOW THAT THEY ARE EXPENSIVE TO BUY FOR YOUR CAMERA

Howdy from Texas,
Please turn your capslock off... no need to shout. ;-) You can probably fashion your own sun shade out of thin sheet plastic, or even cardboard or cardstock painted flat black. The biggest challenge will be fitting it to the lens barrel. I don't know of any particular web page that describes such a process, but if you figure it out on your own, you're invited to tell the rest of us how you did it! You could run over to B&H and look at some of theirs and get measurements. Then all you have to do is figure out how you can clamp it to the lens barrel. I'll bet you could get a large hose clamp from an auto parts store for this purpose. Good luck, |

Is it possibly a matte box that you are referring to?
Also the black things you see on sets are probably flags intended to block or cut light in certain areas. |

Well, I own these boards so I try to stay on top of things. I keep a browser window open here pretty much all the time while I'm home.

SunDog Mattebox/Sunshade
In the New Gear section of Computer Videomaker (April 2002, pg 20) the SunDog clamp-on mattebox/sunshade for XL1/S is listed. "It has two filter stages (one rotating) and accepts standard 4X4 and 4X5.650 glass filters and low-cost resing filters."
http://www.alangordon.com/SunDog.html I doubt this is what mixculture83 is looking for, but just thought I'd mention it.
