Gain and Tv / Av
Hello all
A quick question from a newbie.... When in Tv or Av mode and having the gain set to auto - when the exposure is over / under the display flashes to indicate so , warning me to adjust my camera parameters. When i set the gain to 0 db ( or other) the display no longer flashes to indicate an over /under exposed situation.... Is this correct and if so how do i know the shot is correctly exposed ( zebra settings aside) ??? regards and thanx for your patience.. Andy Oliver |

I leave the gain at 0db or -3db. I never use auto gain because I don't have control of the exposure and I can't predict the results. Auto gain is likely to cause as many problems as it solves.
I judge exposure by the zebra bars. Other than a properly calibrated monitor or waveform monitor, zebra bars are the only way to determine exposure. Shooting guerilla style or on the run, zebra is the only reliable way to judge exposure.
