Color Bars and Tone
Does the XL1s have true full smpte color bars?
The maual says it has standard SMPTE bars but are these same bars found on the sony DV 500? and other high end DV cams? Can XL1s set tone by itself with the colorbars?with out a soundmixer setting tone? Can you sync sound with time code with sound mixer? if not what best solution for this? Thank you for the advise and time spent to answer these Q??

Hello Mario,
I don't have an XL1S, but the manual says "industry standard SMPTE color bars" so I'm pretty sure they're standard SMPTE color bars. They're not the full-field non-standard bars on the old XL1 -- this is the real thing this time. Tone -- no. There is no audio tone with the color bars. Somebody with an XL1S, please confirm this for me. Sync sound with time code with sound mixer -- not sure what you mean by this. I think you have to do this in post. Remember, the XL1S is not a true professional broadcast camera. It is a high-end consumer-level camera, what we like to call "pro-sumer." It has a lot of toys but it does not have all of the features you would expect to find in a camera like the Sony DSR-500. There is a world of difference between the XL1S and the DSR-500. That is why the XL1S is $4,000 and the DSR-500 is $12,000. Hope this helps, |
