NTSC input source?
Hi all:
I am going to be shooting at a press event using a client's XL-H1. For a certain panel discussion, the event organizer is providing press feeds, I cannot shoot it myself. I was told that the event is providing an NTSC composite 16x9 anamorphic video signal and a balanced XLR line level audio feed. 1. Can the Canon record this signal? Will it record it in NTSC, rather than HDV? Does the XL-H1 have an analog NTSC BNC input? Or just an RCA? 2. Can the Canon handle two line level XLR audio signals? Will I need adaptors to turn this into RCA input? I have a MatchBox so that would not be a problem. Essentially, we need the camera to function as an NTSC deck for this one conference, then it's back to shooting footage with the XL-H1 (if the camera is capable of recording the press feed). If not, I guess we will have to drag along a deck? Any input or suggestions? I used the search feature but could not locate any posts regarding NTSC input. All my best, Dan Brockett |

Hi Dan,
1. Does the XL-H1 have an analog NTSC BNC input? Yes. It has both BNC and RCA inputs. There is a tiny little selector switch adjacent to these jacks which toggles the active input. It's easy to miss. Be sure to set it to the BNC position. 2. Can the Canon handle two line level XLR audio signals? Yes. The line / mic level switch is on the back of the camera. Hope this helps, |

Hi Chris:
Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. Do you know if it will record the NTSC input only as NTSC? The camera won't upconvert, correct? I assume it will record an anamorphic 16x9 signal as anamorphic 16x9? Love this site, it's great. Dan |
