Whats the auto focus like on this camera compared to the XL2 as it's pathetic?

Terrible in 24f mode. Better in 1080i. Acceptable in SD.

Thanks Harry,

Is it considerably better in SD than the XL2?

Autofocus updates depend heavily on the frame rate, so the slower the frame rate, the slower is the response of the autofocus.

I would be using the PAL camera at 50i, are you familiar with this type of cameras auto focus response time.

Not much different from 60i, it's only an issue at slower frame rates such as 24 and 25. In interlace mode, AF receives updates 50 or 60 times per second. In Frame mode, only 30 or 25 or 24 frames per second.
