Is there a way to use the supplied shotgun mike on channel 1 and a xlr wireless mic on channel 2. can't seem to get the right combo?

A frequently asked question. The supplied mic is stereo and therefore requires two channels at all times. If you want to use an XLR wireless mic along with the supplied stereo mic, you'll need to switch the camera to 4-channel audio mode. Set the Audio 1 input select switch (channels 1 and 2) to "front mic," and set the input select switch for Audio 2 (channels 3 and 4) to "rear" for the XLR wireless mic. Hope this helps,

In four channel mode, the bit rate is exactly half what it was in two channel mode. I suggest that you try it for yourself, play it back and see how you like it. Some folks can't tell the difference... others can. I wouldn't use 4-channel mode for recording a symphony orchestra, but I'd have no problem using it for weddings. Quality is a highly subjective matter. As always, your mileage may vary.
