Diopter for H1 20X lens?
Has anyone used Canon's 72mm 500D close-up lens (2 element diopter) with their XL-H1?
Is this a reasonable alternative (in terms of image quality) to the EF 100mm? Comparative costs (B&H) are $119.00 and $470.00 repectively. Images, field experiences, and/or opinions are appreciated.

The 500D is OK (depending on which Canon lens it is screwed on to) and can be handy in some circumstances, but doesn't come close to the preformance of the true 100mm Macro. I haven't tried it with the XL-20x lens, but I would think that results would not match an SLR Macro lens bayoneted on to the XL-H1 body.
What the 500D will provide is convience and easier framing of the subject. |
