Curve charts for XLH1 gammas?
Are there any curve charts out there showing the differences in how the XLH1 processes its image with the various menu gammas?
I find the manual to be extremely limited in fully explaining the capabilities of the cameras "look" controls. I'm on a mission to create an HVX/DVX setting. I know it won't exactly emulate the Panasonic look but I believe I can get quite close. |

The only one I've found is from Canon Europa and it's of dubious value in my opinion...

Hey, didn't my 10 year old draw that? :)
Yeah, not very convincing but I appreciate the link.

Steven,
I had to set my XLH1 up to try and match my DVX-100A for a DV shoot. The custom Presets page gave me a lot of possibilities but the match between the Canon and Panasonic menus is not exact. I ended up putting them both on a gray scale chart and used a waveform/vectorscope to get them closer. Gamma's actually matched fairly easily but the pedestals, gains, sharpness and knee all needed finessing. The full number increments of the Custom Presets were not small enough to do perfect matching on my scope. Moving 1 number in gain or pedestal for instance might be too much of an adjustment. I did end up using a different green gain (-1) and red and blue gain to get the XLH1 to have a different response. Overall I was satisfied but I couldn't feel confident about the match in any other light than Tungsten. The Auto whites did not respond identically either. I did save it as a Preset since I will be doing a few more shoots on the same project. I did notice that the lenses gave me different luminance values with the Canon being much flatter from edge to edge than the Panasonic which had more fall off at the edge of the frame. Page 83 of the XLH1 manual has a chart with a test signal to show you what the different Gammas and knees do. |
