"Upgrade" 60i to switchable 50i in HDV?

Hi,
I know the canon is "upgradeable" to 50i recording, on the 60i camera. I always assumed this referred to HDV and DV rec modes.
However at a recent tradeshow I was told by a Canon rep that this is for DV only...not HDV. I think he may have been mis-informed, but wanted to check!
Thanks,

Brian Broz

I asked and Canon charges 600 Euros to unlock the other framerates (24F, 30F and 60i in my case). But they did not tell me that this only works for DV. And this would not make sense imho.

Yeah, it's a total rip off. I guess it is a simple menu entry in the "secret" maintenance menu, same as the masking out of dead pixels.

So i would rather say it's a 15 sec task.

I think this camera has a Linux kernel running inside doesn't it ? So maybe this upgrade is just a matter of re-compiling the kernel (or perhaps simply running a shell script or something ... lol)
