Shooting HD-SDI -> SD

Hi there!

Iīm going to shoot an imagefilm with the XL H1+Mini35.
The XL H1 is completely new for me and I just read about the SDI / HD-SDI Output possibility.
I have a couple of questions, maybe some people out there have experiences with that:

- how about converting the HD-SDI signal to a SDI signal and record it with e.g. DVCPro50/DigiBeta?
- does anyone know about what the camera does with the signal inside? that means what kind of HD-SDI/SDI signals are going out? 4:2:2 8bit or 4:4:4 10bit ???
- is the SDI signal a pure PAL or NTSC signal (not downscaled from HD-SDI)
- how about the Frame mode? does it have 25p (in Europe)? or only 24p? and does it look good or would it be better to deinterlace it in post?
- where do I find the complete tech specs?

Thanks and greetings
Rafael

HD-SDI can be downconverted with an external converter like the ones AJA make. Think its the HD10MD3 that downconverts HD-SDI to all sorts of SD formats.

The output of the HD-SDI since it is single link has to be 4:2:2 at 10 bit. The XL H1 always outputs 60i over hd-sdi and its packs 8 bit to 10 bit so it isn't really true 10 bit, just 8bit with wasted bandwidth.

In north america its always 60i so I'd guess in European version it would always be 50i, but I could be wrong on this easily.

Don't know about the Frame mode, but you can download the specs and the manual from canon. Their is a link to the manual here http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=55123

Thank you, Keith!

Sounds like the right solution for me. Just have to figure out how to have a continous TC on the tape.

When which output?

Hmm, and another thing:

When does the camera output which signal?

Shooting in HDV mode

HD-SDI = 4:2:2 10Bit (which size?)

SDI = ??? (a downconverted HD-SGI Signal or isnīt SDI possible in that mode? which size?)

Shooting DV

HD-SDI = ???

SDI = ???

Thanks.

Thank you, Vince!

Does this mean that in

"shooting in hdv mode > sdi is either 16x9 hd or 16x9 sd"

I can select HD-SDI or SDI as output within the HDV mode and I donīt need a HD-SDI to SDI converter?
