Ef 500/4 IS

First post here...

As a still photographer and new to the XL H1 i just wanted to share my joy over the EF adapter and my L-telephotolenses.

Way over my expectations to get acceptable footage at first try with 3600mm.

Best regards

Jerry,

Welcome to the H1 forum!

Thanks for posting. I have not seen any footage with that lens until now. I'll bet Chris Hurd (the boss at DVinfo) would love to do some astrphotography with that setup. I can imagine the full moon through that lens. Wow!

I'm kind of surprised that you are maintaining a fairly deep depth of field in that shot, with that focal length.

The footage looks like the stock settings from the camera. If you haven't done so, check out the custom preset library for the H1. The default settings render colors far less vividly than after tweaking the settings. Several of us are using the settings by Steven Dempsey called "Panalook". There are several others in the library that you can download and try.

I look forward to seeing more footage from your H1 with that lens. I'm waiting for delivery of my new 70-200 L f/2.8.

Jerry, bra med nye fra skandinavia her på forumet (sorry englishspeakers!)

It's nice to view your footage of the Grey Heron (I suppose?) And I'm also surprised of your depht of field in the shoot. Do you remember your aperture settings?

I'm doing some shoots myself with the XLH1 and the exact same lense as you do. As Ken says there are som nice presets you can try out here at the XLH1 forum. Look at the sticky thread.

Until now I have tried several of the presets, my impression so far is that for the most natural outdoor colors (at least here in Scandianvia this time of year) is the Outsiden presets by Lauri Kettunen.
The Panalook gives a very rich and colorful picture but a little bit to colorful for my taste!

I might be able to put some of my footage online later tonight. Nice to compare different settings.

By the way, many of us wildlifephotographer are discussing different topics over at the Under Water Over Land (UWOL). There is also a UWOL-Challenge starting january 1st. Many of us are attending this challenge.

Footage Request - Motorsport

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering if anybody has any footage taken with the H1 of motorsport events? In particular Motocross racing or Mountain bike/BMX riding.

Im planning to upgrade my arsenal from my 2 XL1s, 1 XL2, 1 XM1 (GL1) to 4 XLH1s, and want to see some footage before I make my decision.

Merry Christmas to All.

Thanks

Is there any chance that this footage could be re-uploaded or we could possibly arrange a file transfer sometime?

I would really like to view the possibilities of this camera and greenscreen for my intended purchase.

Thanks,
Martin

Sorry Martin, those were taken down quite some time ago.

Raw SDI from the H1 is great for keying, depending on how you capture it.

can you run around the pond there and spraypaint the last roof
on the right a neutral gray? The highlight off the white snow
is very distracting. Other than that...it's perfect.

Send us an update when finished.

:)

Wow Steven! Beautiful shot! I see that it is snowing up there pretty good too! I am a bit farther down from you. But still, I should have thought to go somewhere scenic. oh well, maybe next time.

Nice photo! Loved it...

it was a work for hire situation so unfortunately I cannot share any clips but I shot a motocross event with an H1 awhile back and I was pretty happy with the results. we also had an HVX200 to do some slow-mo stuff but the P2 cards are completely impractical for the A camera in a situation like that.
