60i vs 29.97 fps
First off, hello from Alabama!
I currently shoot with an XLH1a I need to meet certain specs for a quick shoot, which are: 1920 X 1080 at 29.97 fps. Would shooting in 60i or the 30fps setting achieve this? (obviously in HDV) Is there a wrong answer here? thanks for any replies. jamie smith |

60i = 29.97.
60i refers to 60 interlaced fields (and it's actually 59.97) 29.97 refers to ~30 FRAMES per second. A frame in this case is two combined interlaced fields. So if the spec calls for progressive footage, then you'll be shooting 29.97 (aka 30p) If the spec calls for interlaced then you'll be shooting 60i Convoluted I know, but really it's pretty standard fare. If this is basic broadcast, it'll likely be 60i.

60i vs. 30fps
Thanks Mr. Ford.
So I guess i'll shoot at 30fps. Here's the specs for the project.. "We are editing in Apple ProRes HQ, 1920x1080, 29.97 fps." I'm shooting a 9 sec shot to save the producers from flying across country and would love to get them what their looking for. thanks again sir. |
