Sony HVR Z1U and Matrox RT 100
Hi all,
I have been using a Pd150 and Matrox Rt100 for local church projects. My Pd150 died on me. There is a used Sony HVR Z1U that is available locally. I am wondering if I could use that camera with the Matrox RTx100 until I upgrade my editing system to HDV? Is there a way to downsample in-camera and capture SD video? Will I be able to control the deck from Adobe Premiere when capturing? thanks in advance for your help! Pete |

Hi Pete,
The answer is YES, absolutely. I did this with the RT.X100 and an FX1 back in Dec. 94. In the camera menu, you will find an option for "i.Link convert", just turn this ON and your HDV will be output as DV via the 1394 output. Just choose a Matrox DV widescreen preset in Premiere, capture and edit, and yes you get deck control. One catch - when downconverting in camera, you lose the ability to use Scene Detect during capture, that embedded info in the HDV stream is lost during the conversion. Note that the PC can either see the camera as an HDV or DV device, it makes a difference. Set camera to DV mode, power off, connect Firewire to PC, power up camera and wait for Windows to recognize it (beep and/or pop up window), then lastly, start Premiere. I'm now using the RT.X2 for all my HDV editing, just let me know if you have any questions on that hardware Jeff Pulera Safe Harbor Computers Quote:

Thanks Jeff for the quick reply!! That's good news. I was using Scene Analyzer to capture... I wonder if I will loose scene detection with that software...
I just realised I posted in the wrong section of the forum....duhhhhhhh should have been in the SONY section I am sorry. |
