Mike,
similar have happen to me ONCE. We did a fast sync/ interview in a hurry, so I just check the footage after but for once it was not there..! ( New tape and in the beginning of it. ) When testing through the Canon XLH1 again and one Sony HDV cam ( it was recorded interlaced ) the scene was gone. But after taking a look at the tape it was a jagged but brand new tape! A monday batch...? But it was just that one and only tape. ( JVC ProHD cassettes ) I cleaned with a Cleaning tape, and then I took an other new tape on set with the same brand/stock and have not have any trouble since then. ( This was April ) -It was just a very fast sync we did, and everything was in a hurry, so I also went through similar frustrated things what it could be after that, - had I turned the wheel to Ext..? - had it been in Standby over night..? - it was really hot day...etc... I ended up lifting the hood of the cassette and looked at the tape and it was jagged but new! And after testing that tape through different cameras and tried to capture with no luck, I have even tested that tape after, even with a Sony HDV camera and no luck on that bad tape, it´s impossible with that one. I guess I just got a bad tape. But I wanted to share after reading your thread. BTW we have had a bad incident with Sony XDcam camera and missing scenes... a few where just gone, the rest was there on the disc! Sum + The XLH1 have worked flawless before and after. + JVC ProHD tapes have served me perfect since 2 years, only this tape was bad. This atleast explain my case. Hope this help some how.
