shot wide screen shows 4:3 ??

I have been out shooting my new xl2 and it is an amazing camera in so many ways. When i shot with my gl2 the wide screen would show up as wide screen on my 54 inch hitachi tv.

The xl2 shows as regular screen even though i shot with wide screen.

Is that because it is native 16:9 and the sides are cut off??? or do I need to change some setting??/

thanks for your response.

Dale, are you connecting to your tv via s-video? If so, your result is normal. Once you capture your footage to your nle as widescreen 1.2 p.a.r., you will then export to your authoring program and build your dvd at 16x9 settings and achieve the desired output.
Are you playing back a dvd disk authored at 4:3 with the player set to 4:3?

Yea, even though you are shooting in 16:9, it still lays to tape animorphic. So if you watch it on a 4:3 TV, it'll look stretched, but if you watch it on a 16:9 TV, it'll look normal. It freaked me out the first time too.
