Canon XL2 and BetaSP recorder?
I shoot on the xl2 and am doing some commercial work where it would be good to record on BetaSP at the same time. I could use a BetaSP camera, but was thinking of connecting to a dockable bvv-5 BetaSP recorder through the xlrs or rca plugs. Any one have any experience with shooting on an xl2 connected to a betaSP recorder of this or any type? Alternatively, any one have a reasonable method of dubbing from miniDV to betaSP for broadcast usage?

Why would you do this and throw away about 25% of the resolution of the camera? To Dub from DV to BetaSP, take DV tape to Dub house and tell them to get onto it straight away!

BetaSP Recorder and XL2
Thank you for the reminder. I think I understand your response, but explaining it to people set in the BetaSP world is difficult. I've read posts trying to explain a comparison of miniDv to BetaSP, but most were not that helpful.
Any suggestions where I might go to get a straightforward discussion of the comparison? Same holds true for a comparison of miniDV and DVPRO and DVCAM.

http://www.lafcpug.org/Tutorials/bas...ma_sample.html shows my investigations and clearly shows the luma resolution loss compared to DV and DigiBeta.
DV, miniDV, DVCpro and DVCAM have identical picture quality. However, they are different tape formulations that means that they are more or less prone to dropout, in this order, from worst dropouts to best: DV / miniDV, DVCAM, DVCpro. I understand that BetaSP people are "special" in their own way, but I guess that until a BetaSP deck appears on "Antique's Roadshow" they're not going to take notice. Graeme
