Using an XL2 to capture HD footage
Hi guys,
Some colleagues of mine shot some 1080i miniDV footage on a Canon HV30 camcorder, but they're unable to capture the footage because they don't have FireWire on their MacBook. They've asked me if it would be possible for them to send the miniDV tapes to me so I can use my XL2 to playback the 1080i footage and capture the files to my Mac via FireWire. I would assume we'd run into difficulties because the XL2 is SD only. Has anyone ever tried this before or know if this is possible? Thanks, James |

Re: Using an XL2 to capture HD footage
Hi James, sorry but it is not at all possible. The XL2 will record
and play only the standard definition DV format. Your friends should provide you with their HV30 camcorder in addition to those HDV cassettes; then you can use the HV30 to play back those HDV tapes and capture them via FireWire to your Mac. If that HV30 is no longer available, then any Canon HV series camcorder will do... namely the HV10, HV20 and HV40. Also, you can use any Canon XH or XL H series camcorder as well. Hope this helps, |

Thanks Chris, I thought as much. I'll see if they can spare the camera for a few days as well then.
