all of a sudden (and without any known changes) - our XL2 is displaying the 'display' icons onto our external DVD writer (connected with RGY composite)

Can anyone advise how to disable this. It is now showing on the tape

Can you please clarify the question?

Getting the screen icons on the external tv interface can be handled by simply pressing the [EVF DISPLAY ON/OFF] button and scrolling through the options, it's easy to press it without realising.

However, if it is writing the data to the cameras tape as well, that is a menu setting which can't happen accidently, from memory.
