Editing/sofware for XL2

Hi all, Before buying a Canon XL2 I owned a small panasonic camcorder and used Cyberlink Power Director.
Downloading was easy and editing was straight forward dragging the individual clips into place.
How does downloading happen with a tape? can I still use Power Director?................Pete.

Use your XL2 in the 16:9 mode and use firewire to get the footage into any editing program (NLE) you care to use.
