Count yourself lucky. When removing a lens, the camera should be powered off. What can happen is a MAIN FUSE short circuit when the lens contacts are pivoted across the wrong points during the lens installation or removal. Replacing the main fuse is an expensive process. You are fortunate that the fuse did not blow.
