SDK kit available now?
Little tidbit on maccentral.com this morning mentions the availability of a Mac OS SDK for the XL2 in july. It says that the windows xp version is currently available...although I can't find it..heres the link.

That's interesting, I thought the SDK thing was dead in the water.
I still haven't found any reference to it on Canon's site. If it's available for windows, as the article says, then they sure are doing a good job of keeping it a secret. :)

The SDK resurfaces!
partial quote:
Canon U.S.A. Inc. announced Tuesday that a free Software Developers Kit (SDK) will be released this July to allow Mac OS X software developers to create custom applications to remotely control the Canon XL2 Mini-DV camcorder. A Windows XP-based SDK is available now. Hmmm, maybe the SDK isn't vaporware after all? Woohoo! |

It's definitely suprising, and weird news...they claim the windows version is 'available now,' yet no one seems to know where to get it, and searching canon's site still doesn't reveal any information.
There was another thread started on this over here

Don't kill your hopes fellas!
I'm really thankful
my prayers where answered. Well, here we go again. pretty neat eh? If you give it a thought for a moment, after the "BLUFF" of the Film Grain feature, another bad announcemet really would make a lot of Canon users like me to think, Canon is not reliable at all with its prosumer market and Panasonic would look as the normal step further. BTW they have a really good attention to detail for what Independent Filmmakers look for a camera. Let`s cheer up the guys of CANON!! WEEEAAAHAAA! I think they are reading our thread, don't you think? Cheers!

Sorry, that's the wrong SDK
Sorry, Joan -- that's the wrong SDK.
You're pointing to the SDK for Canon's Network Video Solutions division, which does IP cameras, network video server software, etc. This is NOT related to DV camcorders or the XL2. |

More from the April 12th press release:
"The SDK can customize functionality for almost every XL2 camcorder application. Whether producing in house or on location, users can easily manage uniform settings on a fleet of camcorders, or control operations remotely. "A version of the SDK for the Windows XP platform is available now, and a version for Mac OSX operating system will be available in mid July of 2005. There is no cost to obtain the SDK. To apply, log onto http://www.canondv.com, and complete the provided form Canon will qualify applicants and the SDK can be received after a software license agreement is signed. "For more information or questions regarding the SDK, call 1-800 OK-CANON, or log onto http://www.canondv.com." |
