Body Only Kits
No one's posted this yet, so I figured I would:
Canon XL2 Body Only Kits are coming the week of October the 18th! According to ZGC's website. |

I hope this is true for every dealer. I ordered mine at L.L. Lozeau here in Montreal and even though I still have a bit of room before production starts, it would sure be nice to have a full month to master this puppy before I start shooting. We'll see.
Now all I need is a 16x manual lens and a CRT viewfinder and I'm all set. Hey if anyone feels like selling theirs I'm all ears... ;) |

That's next week! Nearly two weeks earlier than previously announced, which was for November. I want a 14X manual lens myself...

Hmm. I don't think they're coming in for every dealer. I know ZGC is getting them in this week, but I don't think Zotz or B&H are. It's strange that one dealer would get them, and another would not.
Has anyone else heard anything? |

Yeah, I saw that on B&H's website, but they haven't announced a price, or even when they will be available.

Looks like the body only kits are now in stock over at ZGC.
They have the kit plus a free promo ZGC/Canon t-shirt for $3999 (according to the body only kit webpage). For the 16X manual, you're looking at $5,199, and for the 3X wide the price is $5,099. Perhaps ZGC received theirs so soon because of the ZGC/Canon promo thing they did a while back. I spoke with Zotz Digital recently but they aren't expecting theirs this soon. Joel, where are you buying yours? |

Chris, I ordered mine through Zotz. At this point, I plan on waiting for the official announcement of the Z1's features before purchasing the Canon. If the Z1 doesn't seem worth the money, then I'll stick with the Canon. But since the announcement is supposed to come soon, sometime in November, the body kits might not even be in stock by then.

Chris Hurd just posted in the HDV forum that Sony rep's told him that an announcement of the pro version of the FX1 won't come until at least 2005.
So, I'm going to go ahead and get the XL2, Christopher. I'm tired of all this waiting! And I really don't think it's possible to go wrong with it. |

No, I haven't received mine from Zotz yet. I'm not sure where you see that it says that they are in stock. Do you mean ZGC? Because they have them, according to their website.

Spoke with Zotz Digital, the body kits are now available for order. So if you've been waiting to buy one, there are now two very respectable dealers selling the body only kit: ZGC and Zotz Digital, one for each US coast, and both sponsers of this site.
Joel, I agree, by that time next year we could work on other projects, plus I'm not sure how to go about with HD yet on my editing platform. If anything, this will give me something to look forward to come summertime, if I decide to go HD. |

Just ordered the custom Xl2 from Zotz, with the Black and White viewfinder, and 16x manual lens.
Look out San Francisco. |
