Post production product

I was reading about the XL2 and it said that you can customize, "color matrix, gamma, knee, black stretch, vertical detail, coring, sharpness, noise reduction, color gain, hue, and film grain" to get the more "cinematic look." Can't you do the same through editing software having recorded on an XL1s? On the programs I have seen, these are all customizeable features. What is the difference between doing this on the camera during the filming or during the post production process?

Mitch,

The main difference, is that you are applying the in camera adjustments before compression. This is important in that the 5:1 compression used in the DV format significantly limits the color information available for correction. Color and tonal correction of DV in post, almost always leads to the production of unwanted artifacts, as the footage must be decompressed, adjusted, and then recompressed. Thus, whatever can be done in camera is a plus.

And an even simpler reason - time. You don't need to render the thing if you've already done it all/most in cam.
